The Challenge
A foreign defence division in Australia out of the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre where their operations demand precise, reliable inventory control over tools and aircraft parts.
- No RFID Hardware for Existing System- The unit was managing inventory through Microsoft Power Apps but lacked RFID scanning hardware that could integrate directly with it, limiting speed and accuracy of stock and tool tracking.
- Need for Flexible Connectivity- Any new scanning device needed to connect via Bluetooth or USB to fit existing workflows and devices, without requiring a full system overhaul.
- Time-Consuming Manual Barcode Tracking- Without integrated RFID scanning, tracking tools and parts took longer than operationally ideal, adding friction to day-to-day maintenance and inventory processes.
Our Solution
When this defence division reached out to Datascan, they were not aware of which RFID hardware would be suitable for their requirements. After initial consultation and understanding their requirements, Data Scan recommended the Zebra TC22R, a rugged handheld Zerba RFID computer with both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, giving the unit the flexibility to connect the device however best suited their workflow. To ensure the device met their operational requirements before committing, Data Scan provided a demo unit for the team to trial directly within their live Power Apps environment and helped them to test the device with their existing infrastructure. DataScan IT team worked with defence internal IT team to finalise the specs requirements. Over 3–4 weeks of hands-on testing, the unit confirmed the TC22R integrated smoothly with their existing system.
