The Challenge
A Melbourne-based apparel retailer was struggling with accurate stock counts, limited inventory visibility, and difficulty locating specific items on the shop floor particularly when fulfilling urgent dispatch orders. With inventory data disconnected from real-time shop floor visibility, staff often spent unnecessary time manually searching for stock, slowing down order fulfilment.
- Inaccurate Stock Counts - Manual stocktaking processes made it difficult to maintain accurate, up-to-date inventory records.
- Limited Shop Floor Visibility - Staff had no reliable way to know exactly where specific items were located within the store.
- Slow Dispatch Fulfilment - Locating items for urgent dispatch orders relied on manual searching, creating delays.
Our Solution
Data Scan implemented a full RFID Inventory Management System for the retailer — covering consultation, hardware, software, RFID tags, and post-implementation support. The solution used Zebra TC22R handheld RFID readers alongside RFID tags applied across the retailer's inventory, giving staff real-time visibility of stock location down to the shop floor level. Because the retailer wanted inventory data connected to their existing point-of-sale system, Data Scan integrated the RFID software directly with their Shopify POS, using the software's built-in integration capability to avoid disrupting their existing sales operations.

-
05
Step 5
Go-Live & Staff Training
The RFID system went live across the store, trained store staff on using the new RFID hardware and software as part of their daily operations.
The Results
Since implementing the RFID inventory management system, the retailer has gained real, practical visibility into their stock that wasn't possible before. Real-Time Visibility on the Shop Floor The retailer can now see exactly where items are located on the shop floor — critical for locating stock quickly when fulfilling urgent dispatch orders. Faster, More Confident Dispatch With RFID-powered visibility, staff no longer need to manually search the floor to locate items for dispatch, reducing delays and improving order fulfilment speed. Seamless Shopify Integration RFID inventory data flows directly into their existing Shopify POS system, giving the retailer accurate stock visibility without disrupting day-to-day sales operations.
"RFID visibility means our staff don't waste time searching the floor for stock anymore. Dispatch is faster and orders go out on time."
